Hi! My name is Donata Lockett, but I go by Dee. I’m a journalist currently seeking freelance writing and editing opportunities for online and print media brands. Areas I have experience covering include but are not limited to: music (both the art and the biz), feminism, TV, and women of color. You can find my byline at New York Magazine, Slate, The Fader, Pigeons and Planes, and more. Here’s how to contact me:

I earned my master’s in magazine, newspaper & online journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Publications at Syracuse University in May 2013. And in 2012, I earned a double bachelor of science in communications and English also from SU.
I’m passionate about analyzing culture—from entertainment to politics to sports. My wide range of interests gives strength to my versatility as a journalist. I can easily transition from an Orange Is the New Black episode recap to an enterprise piece on the sexual victimization of Syracuse refugees to an Op-Ed on instant replay in baseball. But my heart is in covering pop culture, specifically music.
On this site you’ll find my musings on media, politics, life as a journalist, and whatever else I’m inclined to blog that day. You’ll also find my résumé and professional portfolio, which includes my published clips and multimedia work.
Thank you for visiting!
